The Isle Evrima 0.21.720 — Kentrosaurus playable, hill sliding and the "Nebulous Five" roster
Kentrosaurus lands on the Evrima Public Branch, and Afterthought already reveals the next five playables
The Isle: Evrima's 0.21.720 update adds a playable Kentrosaurus with reflection damage, fixes dozens of bugs and preps the next HordeTest. Dev blog 70 also confirms five upcoming playables after Spinosaurus: Shantungosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Homalocephale, Megalania and Giganotosaurus.

Kentrosaurus joins the Evrima Public Branch
Following the HordeTest, Afterthought updated the Evrima Public Branch to version 0.21.720 — our La Meute QC servers followed suit. The big addition in this patch: Kentrosaurus becomes playable for everyone, not just in testing. It's the game's first playable stegosaurid after Stegosaurus itself, with a combat kit built entirely around retaliation rather than fleeing.
- Hold RMB — Charge Power Swing
- Hold RMB + LMB — Perform Power Swing
- Passive — Reflection Damage on attackers hitting the tail or shoulder spikes
- Ctrl — Defensive Stance toggle: more reflection, more stability, blocks certain abilities on spike contact
- LMB (while in Defensive Stance) — Defensive tail attack
On the paleontology side, the real Kentrosaurus lived 150-155 million years ago in present-day Tanzania, measured 4.5 to 5 meters and weighed between 320 and 1,000 kg — a much smaller build than its cousin Stegosaurus. Our full paleo entry is available on the encyclopedia, and the game profile details its abilities while official in-game stats (HP, damage, speed) settle.
Other 0.21.720 patch highlights
- Rain particles temporarily removed (weather still functional) while a known issue is fixed
- Updated skin system — additional patterns and themes coming
- Redwood and mangrove locations added (WIP) with supporting migration zones
- Pteranodon adult weight raised to 90kg, increased landing speed/angle tolerance
- Spearfishing default keybind changed to G
- Resting regeneration rates updated across all species
- Eggs now automatically hatch if players don't manually hatch them
- Sea turtle added to Deinosuchus's diet
- Multiple fixes: crush hitbox by stance, latch bites not detecting foliage, nests occasionally vanishing, broken animations on several juveniles (Herrerasaurus, Beipiaosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Pteranodon)
The full list runs past 60 fixes — mostly post-HordeTest stabilization on collisions, animations and the HUD. Nothing that changes overall balance, but a sign the team is cleaning house seriously before adding the next playables.
Dev Blog 70 — the Hatchery, Camarasaurus and Avaceratops
Afterthought's Dev Blog 70 breaks down the month's work by team. On programming, Ariel fixed issues surfaced by the HordeTest and added egg auto-hatching to stop eggs from staying stuck indefinitely. The big ongoing project remains the per-dinosaur camera system rework — since each species has a very different shape, the team is configuring unique cases one at a time before generalizing.
On environment art, VisualTech48 merged several areas previously seen in GUTS — including the necropsy area and incineration pit — into a single multi-story building with many connections and passages dedicated to smaller animals. Most of the month went into finalizing the Hatchery: a massive brutalist building where animals were brought to life in artificial nests and nurseries, with transport halls, hatching, feeding and socialization zones to integrate juveniles into established herds and packs.
On sound, Wedge keeps iterating on Camarasaurus's calls — Evrima's first playable sauropod — chasing a bassy sonic palette that conveys its mass. Baryonyx's juvenile vocalizations are being revised to evoke young alligators and geckos without overlapping Deinosuchus, which required adding a subadult sound set. Avaceratops's calls are also progressing well, drawing on elk bugles to nail the signature sound the community already recognizes.
On animation, KissenKitten confirms Avaceratops's sparring kit is nearly done and shows progress on Parasaurolophus. Oviraptor, Baryonyx and Camarasaurus now have complete animations barring minor fixes — they're just waiting on a future HordeTest to be tested in-game.
Director's commentary — hill sliding, destructible foliage and the wound system
The director's commentary confirms a quick HordeTest coming later this week, with Austroraptor returning alongside several expected additions. Hill sliding is coming for all species: animals will slide down slopes that are too steep, with a clear uphill advantage for quadrupeds. Destructible foliage also makes its debut — mass and speed will let players crush small plants or knock down trees, except the largest ones, which stay intact so a forest can't be turned into a desert.
The skin system finally works as intended after several fixes, opening the door to a steady stream of new patterns and palettes — including some community favorites. The wound system also gets an update: below half health, animals will start visibly limping and take a speed penalty proportional to damage taken, capped at a certain threshold. The goal is to make weakened targets identifiable at a glance and stop a dying animal from fleeing at full speed.
The blog's big announcement remains the next batch of playables after Spinosaurus, internally nicknamed the "Nebulous Five": Shantungosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Homalocephale, Megalania and Giganotosaurus. The release order among the five isn't fixed yet — Soul Pledges on the official Discord will help steer the priority.
What it changes on our server
For the La Meute QC community, Kentrosaurus opens a new defensive playstyle — a herbivore that punishes aggression instead of just fleeing, sitting alongside the existing Stegosaurus. We'll update its game profile as soon as official stats (HP, damage, stamina) are confirmed in-game. Also worth watching: the upcoming end-of-week HordeTest and the arrival of hill sliding, which will shake up quite a few hunting and fleeing dynamics on the map we know by heart.
