Summer Game Fest 2026: Everything You Need to Know
Friday night, while you were watching the stream, Capcom and Square Enix dropped two bombshells — here's what you can't miss.
Geoff Keighley's 2-hour show at the Dolby Theatre unveiled 20+ games. Full recap: RE Veronica, FF7 Revelation, Control Resonant, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and more.

Two hours, one theatre, 20+ games
On June 5, 2026, Geoff Keighley took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the eighth edition of Summer Game Fest. Two hours of live show, broadcast simultaneously across twenty-plus platforms, in front of a packed house. The La Meute QC community tuned in starting at 5 PM EDT to follow the announcements in real time on Discord.
The tally: over 20 games shown, including remakes that fans have been waiting years for, sequels to major franchises, and a handful of mid-show surprises that blew up every chat. PlayStation confirmed 16 of those titles are coming to PS5. The rest are split between PC, Xbox Series, and a few platform-first exclusives.
SGF has carved out its place as the summer counterpart to The Game Awards — an annual gathering with no booths, no lines, built for streaming. The 2026 edition stuck to that tight format: one host, one theatre, back-to-back trailers with no dead air. For keeping up in real time, it's ideal. For depth, you need the recaps — like this one.
This article is the overview recap — the big picture of everything shown. For Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Stellar Blade, we have dedicated articles that dig into each announcement individually.
The night's biggest moments
Resident Evil Veronica (Capcom, 2027)
Capcom made it official — the remake everyone's been waiting for since RE4's revamp: a full modernization of Code: Veronica, simply titled Resident Evil Veronica. The 2000 original — which debuted on Dreamcast before landing on PS2 — had never received the full remake treatment. Claire Redfield returns as the lead. Capcom stated they want to preserve the essence of the original while modernizing the gameplay. The trailer showed a dark, oppressive Rockfort Island running on a fully-loaded RE Engine. Launch set for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation (Square Enix, 2027)
Square Enix pulled back the curtain on the final chapter of the FF7 remake trilogy. Titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the game promises "planetary-scale" combat — which for fans of the original sounds like a clear nod to Meteor and Holy. No specific date, but 2027 is confirmed. We're not going deeper here — our dedicated article covers everything the trailer revealed.
Control Resonant (Remedy Entertainment, September 24, 2026)
The direct sequel to Control drops September 24, 2026. Remedy sets the action in a Manhattan transformed by Altered World Events — the city itself has become a Place of Power. Dylan Faden takes the lead this time, navigating exploration, missions, and puzzles across a paranormally transformed New York. The brutalist art direction feels as much like Alan Wake 2 as the original Control. Remedy looks to be firing on all cylinders.
The Blood of Dawnwalker (Rebel Wolves, September 3, 2026)
Rebel Wolves — a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers — locked in a hard date: September 3, 2026. Dark fantasy, medieval vampire setting with a day/night gameplay mechanic central to progression. The studio had teased the title at previous events, but this was the first full gameplay trailer that concretely shows the open world in action. Ambitious for a studio's debut, and the close release date puts the pressure on.
Other titles worth watching
Beyond the flagship franchises, the show lined up a series of titles worth keeping on your radar. Here are the strongest ones:
- Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced (Ubisoft Singapore, July 9, 2026) — a remake of the franchise's most beloved entry, with a reworked soundtrack by composer Woodkid. Official tagline: "Hoist your flag and hit the high seas again."
- Stranger Than Heaven (RGG Studio, January 15, 2027) — the team behind Like a Dragon takes on a new action-adventure spanning multiple eras of Japanese history. RGG stepping outside the Yakuza IP is worth watching.
- RuneScape: Dragonwilds (Jagex, September 15, 2026) — co-op survival set in the RuneScape universe, included in PS Plus Extra and Premium at launch. A solid surprise for subscribers.
- Lords of the Fallen II (CI Games, 2026) — the soulslike returns with new mechanics. The first game was uneven; the sequel looks like it's learned its lessons.
- Star Wars: Galactic Racer (Fuse Games, October 6, 2026) — licensed Star Wars racer featuring playable character Darius Pax and a mysterious pilot named Shade. Canonical planet circuits with Pod Race vibes.
- Crossfire (That's No Moon / Smilegate, TBA) — narrative shooter from a studio partly staffed by former Naughty Dog and Insomniac talent. That's No Moon had already impressed with their production ambitions.
- Guild Wars 3 (ArenaNet, beta fall 2027) — the MMO franchise makes its console debut. PC and console beta confirmed for fall 2027.
- gen Atlas (gen Design / Epic Games, TBA) — open-world action-adventure from the studio behind Shadow of the Colossus, published by Epic Games. Few details beyond the trailer, but the pedigree speaks for itself.
Mafia: The Old Country – Man of Honor, Hangar 13's DLC, drops August 14, 2026. It adds two story chapters centered on Enzo Favara and Ennio Salieri — two characters from the main game. For story mode fans, it's a direct continuation of the base game narrative.

SGF from this side of the border: EDT timing and Canadian context
Summer Game Fest kicks off at 2 PM PDT — that's 5 PM EDT. For the La Meute QC community, the timing is ideal: after the workday, before dinner. On the La Meute QC Discord server, the #gaming-general channel lit up around 4:45 PM with the pre-show. Activity peaked with the Resident Evil Veronica trailer around 5:30 PM.
Something English-language recaps often gloss over: SGF hits differently for Canadian gamers. That's No Moon — the studio behind Crossfire — counts former Naughty Dog and Insomniac developers among its ranks, two studios that shaped entire generations of PlayStation players. Seeing that calibre of talent form an independent studio and land a SGF slot is a market confidence signal worth noting.
Pre-show rumors pointed to new Cuphead content from Studio MDHR (Oakville, Ontario). No Cuphead announcement was documented in official post-show sources — if something happened, it went through unofficial channels. We're waiting on confirmation before saying more.
Notable no-shows
Every big show gets judged partly by what wasn't there. This year, no sign of GTA VI — Rockstar keeps its own communication timeline. No Metroid Prime 4 Beyond either, with Nintendo reserving its own separate Direct slot. And for Frictional Games fans, still no new Amnesia or SOMA on the horizon.
Titles like Alien: Isolation 2 were circulating in pre-show rumors, but their presence at SGF wasn't documented in official sources at the time of publication. If they were shown outside covered channels, details will follow in dedicated articles once confirmed.
What the community took away
« RE Veronica remake confirmed. That's it, I'm done. Claire Redfield on the RE Engine is all I've wanted for 4 years. »
— Reaction Discord La Meute QC, 5 juin 2026
The Resident Evil Veronica announcement dominated discussions, no surprise there. It's the missing link in Capcom's remake run: after RE2, RE3, and RE4, only Veronica (and potentially RE1) remained. Seeing Capcom officially confirm they'll preserve the original's essence while modernizing it — not just a HD skin — calmed old-school fan concerns.
Control Resonant also generated real excitement — September 24, 2026 is right around the corner, and the original Control has cult status in the community. The protagonist switch (Dylan instead of Jesse Faden) raised questions, but Remedy proved with Alan Wake 2 they know how to handle continuity in an expanded universe. Rebel Wolves got a more polarized reception: former CDPR talent automatically excites part of the audience, but the day/night mechanic still needs to prove itself over extended play.
La Meute QC verdict
SGF 2026 wasn't the most explosive show of the decade, but it had enough to satisfy multiple audiences at once. Survival horror fans got their Capcom remake. JRPG players have a window for the final FF7 chapter. Action-adventure enthusiasts have Control Resonant and Rebel Wolves to mark on their calendar. And PS Plus subscribers get RuneScape: Dragonwilds included at no extra cost from September.
The show falls slightly short on left-field surprises — no unknown title coming out of nowhere to steal the spotlight. Everything shown was expected or pre-rumored. But in a market where false hype has been rampant these past years, a show that delivers on confirmed content with real gameplay beats an hour of CGI with no release window.
- For whom: Resident Evil fans, Final Fantasy VII fans, Control fans, dark fantasy action-RPG players, and PS Plus subscribers.
- Watch closely: The Blood of Dawnwalker (Sept. 3) and Control Resonant (Sept. 24) land in the same window — big fall 2026, start budgeting now.
- Wait for confirmation before getting hyped: Alien Isolation 2, new Cuphead — not yet officially documented in post-show sources.
