Forza Horizon 6 — Tokyo open world May 19, $89.99 CAD or Game Pass
Playable Tokyo, day one on Game Pass, $89.99 CAD — May's biggest launch
Forza Horizon 6 launches on 19 May 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PC and Game Pass on day one. It is the series' first Asian map: a Japan centred on Tokyo, five times denser than any previous Forza city, with over 550 cars and full ray tracing.

Forza is back, Tokyo edition
Forza Horizon 6 launches May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam and Microsoft Store) and lands in Game Pass the same day. Premium Edition buyers get four days of advanced access starting May 15. For many players, it's the most anticipated release of the entire spring: Forza Horizon 5 had been carrying the torch since 2021, and the franchise had never left the West.
This time, Playground Games is shaking things up: out go FH5's Mexican deserts, in comes Japan — an urban-centric world built around Tokyo, on what the studio calls its largest map ever. Tokyo alone is reportedly five times bigger than any other city ever featured in the series. It's the first time Forza Horizon crosses the Pacific, and arguably the franchise's boldest bet since the original.
What we know about content
Over 550 real-world cars at launch, from JDM tuners to European supercars. The studio keeps its Festival Horizon formula but layers in much more pronounced weather seasons: snow on Mount Fuji, monsoon in the rice fields, typhoon rains in Tokyo. The map mixes Tokyo (Shuto highways, Shibuya, ports), countryside (terraced rice paddies, forests, bridges) and mountain zones for Initial D-style touge runs.
Modes and progression
Classic solo Festival Horizon, online multiplayer, Custom Routes mode to draw your own circuits, photo mode and the return of Eliminator/Blueprint events. No radical structural shift — Playground Games is leaning on the Tokyo wow-factor instead of a gameplay revolution.
PC specs: from GTX 1650 to RTX 5070 Ti
The PC spec range is unusually wide. On the floor, you boot in with an Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 1600, a GTX 1650 / RX 6500 XT / Arc A380, 16 GB of RAM and a mandatory SSD. For the Extreme RT preset (max ray tracing), aim for an RTX 5070 Ti or equivalent. Between the two, several Recommended and Ultra tiers let you push the game on current mid-range hardware.
| Preset | Target GPU | RT effect |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | GTX 1650 / RX 6500 XT | Pas de RT |
| Recommended | RTX 3060 / RX 6700 XT | RT léger |
| Ultra | RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT | RT moyen |
| Extreme RT | RTX 5070 Ti | RTGI + reflets RT |
On the tech side, the PC version supports NVIDIA DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50, DLSS Frame Gen for RTX 40+, DLSS Super Resolution on all RTX cards, DLAA and Reflex. Ray tracing offers two effects: ray-traced reflections (on cars and environment) and ray-traced global illumination (RTGI). On consoles, RTGI is absent — Xbox Series X|S fall back to screen-space reflections.
CAD pricing: three editions, one Game Pass trap
| Edition | CAD price | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 89,99 $ | Jeu de base |
| Deluxe | 129,99 $ | Jeu + Car Pass + bonus |
| Premium | 159,99 $ | Deluxe + 4 jours d'accès anticipé + 2 expansions + VIP |
The trap: the game is day one on Game Pass. If you already have the sub ($16.99/mo CAD for Game Pass Ultimate at the time of writing), you play the Standard Edition at no extra cost on May 19. To get May 15 advanced access and the two expansions, you still need to buy a Premium Add-On — which costs nearly as much as the game itself, drawing visible frustration on Pure Xbox forums as far back as January 2026.
Bottom line for a player without Game Pass: Standard at $89.99 CAD is the best ratio if you don't mind waiting for future DLCs. If you already know you'll play a year or more, Premium at $159.99 ends up cheaper than buying each expansion separately.
Community feedback: hype, but Game Pass jitters
On Reddit (r/forza, r/xbox), the vibe is overwhelmingly positive about visuals and audio in the official previews. Mountain road and night-Tokyo clips pulled hundreds of thousands of views in under 48 hours, and the mid-April hands-on demos (covered by Insider Gaming and Pure Xbox) describe a level of polish rivaling Gran Turismo 7.
« The Premium upgrade costs nearly as much as the game itself. With Game Pass, you still end up paying full price for advanced access and the expansions. »
— Pure Xbox forums
The recurring criticism is the commercial strategy: this two-tier price (Game Pass + Premium Add-On) creates the feeling that the sub isn't the "real" version for fans. The Forza community is also nervous about the series' usual arcade handling applied to tighter Japanese mountain roads — some fear a lack of challenge on the touge phase.
La Meute QC verdict
Forza Horizon 6 ticks every box for a massive hit: playable Tokyo, ray tracing for those with the rig, day-one Game Pass and perfect timing (between end of university session and start of summer). At $89.99 CAD for the Standard or $17 for Game Pass Ultimate which already includes the Standard plus hundreds of other games, the value is unbeatable for most players.
The one real risk: Tokyo overshadowing everything else on the map. If the countryside and mountain zones are just connective tissue between urban races, the "whole Japan" promise falls flat. We'll know on May 15 with the first Premium reviews, and on May 19 with full launch.
Who's it for? Who's not?
- For: every Game Pass subscriber (day one included, no reason to wait)
- For: JDM, Initial D, drift, touge fans — you've been waiting 10 years for this
- For: anyone wanting to flex a recent RTX 50 with DLSS 4 Multi Frame Gen
- Not for: hardcore sim players (Assetto Corsa, iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate remain your friends)
- Not for: tight budgets without Game Pass — Premium at $160 CAD for four days of access is tough to justify
