June 2026 Nintendo Direct: what to expect (and the rumors)
Unconfirmed Direct, an Ocarina of Time rumor, and a June packed with showcases
No Nintendo Direct is officially dated, but everything points to a June 2026 showcase. Rumors of a Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and new Switch 2 hardware, while FF7 Rebirth lands June 3 and Xbox holds its showcase June 7.

June, showcase season
No official date as of May 28, 2026, but the calendar speaks for itself: Xbox holds its Games Showcase on June 7, PlayStation is preparing a State of Play during the month, and Nintendo usually slips a Direct into June. Watchers therefore expect a Nintendo showcase in the coming weeks, with no confirmation from the company so far.
The rumor making waves — an Ocarina of Time remake?
Two pieces of chatter keep coming back. First: a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which would serve as the big holiday game for Switch 2. Second: a new hardware revision or special edition of the Switch 2. Take it with caution — nothing is confirmed, and both points are insider speculation for now, not a Nintendo announcement.
What's confirmed for Switch 2
Beyond the rumors, the Switch 2 lineup is taking shape. The most immediate one for us: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives on Switch 2 and Xbox on June 3, nearly two years after its PS5 release.
- Star Fox — announced for Switch 2, June window
- Splatoon Raiders and Rhythm Heaven Groove — targeting July
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — confirmed for Switch 2
- Donkey Kong 64 — added to the Switch Online catalog
- Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave — slated for 2026, no firm date
Not just Nintendo — Xbox and PlayStation too
The Xbox Games Showcase on June 7 is locked in, and a PlayStation State of Play is expected right after. In other words, early June will concentrate most of the summer's big console announcements. We'll be watching to spot what could matter to our community — multiplayer, survival, big AAA.
A Switch 2 entering its second year
The Switch 2 is almost a year old, and that's exactly what makes this Direct important. A console's first year lays the groundwork — the hardware, the ports, a few flagship exclusives. The second year is when the catalog has to thicken to convert that momentum. A June Direct would land right on time to announce the holiday lineup and keep the momentum going.
That's also why the Ocarina of Time remake rumor is gaining so much traction: Nintendo needs a big unifying name for the 2026 holidays, and a remake of one of the most beloved Zeldas would check every box. But to repeat — until Nintendo says anything, it stays a hypothesis, however appealing.
Recap — the June dates to remember
| Date | Event / release |
|---|---|

We'll update this article as soon as an official Nintendo Direct date is announced.
Our take
The Ocarina of Time remake is the kind of reveal that would blow up a Direct, but until Nintendo makes it official, we're staying level-headed. What's certain is that June 2026 will be busy: between FF7 Rebirth on the 3rd, the Xbox Showcase on the 7th, and a likely Direct, there's plenty to carry a good chunk of the summer. We'll be back as soon as an official date drops.
